Start with the guest, not the scent
Before looking at fragrance notes, write down who stays with you, for how long and why. A business hotel with short midweek stays needs something different from a spa retreat or a family resort. The scent should support the mood of the stay, not compete with it.
Six scent directions to start from
| Direction | Feels | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Fresh citrus | Bright, clean, awake | City and business hotels, gyms |
| Soft floral | Gentle, warm, familiar | Boutique and heritage properties |
| Warm woods | Grounded, quiet, rich | Luxury and resort properties |
| Clean musk | Soft, modern, calm | Design hotels, serviced apartments |
| Green and herbal | Fresh, spa-like, restful | Spas, wellness retreats, hospitals |
| Amber and spice | Deep, welcoming, evening | Palace and destination hotels |
Test it properly
- Shortlist two or three directions and request samples of the shampoo, body wash and lotion, not only a card or vial.
- Test in a real guest bathroom, with steam and a shower running. Fragrance changes in humidity.
- Ask staff who are not on the decision team to smell it fresh, and again after a day.
- Check how it sits alongside your housekeeping products, room spray and linen.
- Run a small in-room trial for a few weeks and read the guest feedback before committing.
Common mistakes
- Choosing the strongest scent in the sample box. Strength fades from a decision-maker's nose quickly, and guests with sensitivities notice first.
- Picking a scent that clashes with the lobby or spa fragrance.
- Treating fragrance and packaging as separate decisions. Bottle, label and scent should read as one collection.
- Skipping the rollout plan: the same scent must be available reliably across every property and every reorder.
From a good scent to a signature scent
A signature scent is made for one property or group. It is developed with you, carries your name and is not sold to competitors. It takes longer than choosing from an existing range, and it pays off most for groups that want consistency across many sites. STAY by Anadoris builds collections around the fragrance first and carries it through the whole bathroom: personal care, dry amenities, dispensers and slippers.

Frequently asked questions
How many fragrance options should a hotel shortlist?
Two or three. More than that makes testing harder and the final choice less confident.
What is a signature scent?
A fragrance developed for one property or group, carried across its amenities and not offered to competitors.
Should fragrance be the same across every room category?
Usually yes for the bathroom. Consistency is part of the memory. Premium suites can add a distinct touch, such as a bespoke gift or diffuser.
